FootLocker 2011

November 26, 2011

Several big races today.  The girls championship race was obviously the big deal.  Darby was closer to the action than last year, but still had a good-sized gap to the top 20 at 2k.  She picked up some places but there was still a big gap to the top 10 (and qualifying for nationals) as they headed into the woods with less than a mile to go.  She really went after it when they got back to the lake, trying to reel in the 10th and 11th place girls, but ran out of time and finished 12th in 17:36.  That’s the third time this year at 17:35 or 17:36.  One place and 12 seconds better than last year.

Andrew took on the challenge of the championship race and almost certainly moved up more places than anyone else.  He was PR pace all the way through – even passed Josh briefly in the last 1000 – and finished in 16:32, his best this season by 14 seconds.  Bryan got off to a very fast start in the junior boys, a kept moving up throughout.  He went from about 13th at 4k to as high as 7th on the lake before a wave of four guys passed him in the final 30 meters.  He was 12th in 16:23, an 11-second PR.  He also got a medal and an all-region certificate, and he and I got left by the vans while we were at the awards ceremony.  So that was extra special.

Brook ran a huge PR of 24:15 in the freshman/sophomore girls race.

Peter went out quite fast (2:52) and had a tough middle of the race, but finished fairly strong to run 15:53 in the seeded boys race.  Josh was also out very fast (3:02) and found the rest of the race to be tough and ran 16:23.  Avery was 17:24 in the junior boys race; Dustin ran 17:41, Dylan 18:17, and Nick 19:27.  Matthew ran about 17:41 in the sophomore boys race, and Jacob was 18:25, his best time anywhere other than United Way.  Hannah was about 20:48.  Hailey was about 19:46.  I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone.

Oh, Coach Mac was sixth in the masters with 16:45.

Also Madison was first in her 10k in California and beat all but five men.

I will get splits up sometime soon.

Whoo- hoo! Minute and a half PR! By the way, did anybody find a green shirt and long black running pants? I thought my dad had them, but he didn’t!
