Boys Results and Comparisons to 2010

November 6, 2011

(Updated to reflect the Monday corrections to the results.)

The boys finished sixth in the state meet, scoring 154 points.  Last year, the boys were eighth, with 188 points.  This, obviously, was better.  (In fact, this year the boys were 50 points in front of eighth, and only 10 points out of fourth.)  One way to look at how much better is to compare each person to what they did last year.  Only four of the seven runners from last year were returning, but we also ran all seven spots, and so you can compare each spot to the same place in the lineup from last year.

We were remarkably similar up front – the first two places each improved by one, and each ran exactly the same time as five seconds faster than that position last year.  We got significant gains in place, with minor (<10 sec) gains in time, from the third, fourth, and fifth spots.  The sixth and seventh spots finished higher in terms of place than last year, but were slower.  Overall, it reflected the fact that the race was not quite as fast as last year.

First three columns after name are place, change from last year for that person, and change from last year for that spot on the team.  Next three columns are the same info but for time instead of place.  Minus-sign (“-“) means the place/time was less this year, which is a good thing.
