State Meet Info
The state indoor meet is less than two weeks away (Feb. 11 in Chapel Hill). We have lists of all the qualifiers in the middle distance and distance events. The lists show that there are a very large number of qualifiers in all of the girls’ events, the boys’ 3200, and to a lesser extent the other boys’ events. One possible interpretation of this (i.e., the correct interpretation) is the qualifying standards in these events are not nearly tough enough for a state championship. At any rate, it is likely to lead to multiple sections in all of the events other than girls’ 4×800.
There is also a list of the top eight finishers from distance events at the last three state winter championships (including last year, which was actually held outside.) This gives a feel for what it actually takes to score at state in the winter.
You can see this on the list, but Watauga’s distance qualifiers are: Darby (#4), Hailey (12), Julia (20), and Madison (26) in the 1000; Darby (1), Madison (10) and Hailey (45) in the 1600; Darby (1) and Madison (13) in the 3200; Josh (9) and Bryan (22) in the 1000; Josh (15) in the 1600; Andrew (13) and Josh (28) in the 3200; and both the girls (2) and boys (9) 4×800 teams.
